Digital sustainability statement

1. Scope and principles

This statement covers the design, content, code, data and delivery of public rdcmexico.com pages. We consider environmental, social and economic impacts rather than reducing sustainability to one estimated CO₂ number.

Sufficiency, accessibility, privacy, performance, maintainability and longevity guide decisions. WSG is a continuous-improvement framework, not a conformance badge.

2. Measures implemented

The following decisions are active in the published website.

• Photographs are served AVIF-first with responsive 480 px variants, WebP fallbacks and lazy loading below the first viewport.
• Across five unique homepage photographs and six initiative logos, primary files fell from 339,260 to 103,674 bytes, about 69%. The five mobile variants total 23,807 bytes.
• Company logos are converted in-browser to AVIF when supported or WebP as a fallback, capped at 512 px and 150 KB; originals and metadata are not sent.
• System typefaces mean no external font download. Functional icons use SVG or CSS; there is no video, audio, carousel or autoplay.
• Lightweight CSS, IntersectionObserver and requestAnimationFrame motion is removed by prefers-reduced-motion, the manual control or low-consumption mode.
• Dark mode is the default with a light alternative. Dark interfaces can reduce energy on OLED displays; we do not claim equal savings on every screen technology.
• The PWA provides offline pages and local caching for reused assets without preloading every below-the-fold image.
• No advertising, third-party trackers or analytics. The maturity assessment runs locally and the contact form opens email without server storage.
• A honeypot, rate limits and lightweight computational proof replace third-party captcha services.

3. Measurement and interpretation

Published file weights come from project assets, not an emissions calculator. The 69% result compares the same photography and logo set before and after AVIF; it is not total page weight or a verified carbon reduction.

Actual transfer varies by route, device, viewport, preferences, cache state and the number of manifesto logos.

4. Limits and open work

We do not yet have primary energy, water, hardware or electricity-mix data from the hosting and delivery infrastructure. No independent full life-cycle assessment exists, so we avoid presenting one CO₂e estimate as an absolute fact.

The Corporate Digital Responsibility Playbook is roughly 3.1 MB and is the heaviest individual resource. It downloads only on request; a lightweight HTML summary and PDF accessibility review remain future work.

The organization directory will grow with new participants. Logos are lazy-loaded, capped at 150 KB and should be reviewed periodically.

5. Improvement commitments

Material changes trigger a review of resource weight, external requests, mobile behavior, accessibility and genuine need. We prefer text, HTML, CSS and SVG over heavy media, remove unused resources and preserve image budgets.

Once the final domain and infrastructure are consolidated, we will investigate hosting energy data, cache duration, transport compression and a reproducible measurement method. Future environmental claims will separate measurements, estimates and assumptions.
